James Kagambe, (aka “KG”), is an internationally renowned mountaineer from Kenya. He was in charge of our safety on our expedition to climb the Rwenzori mountains in Uganda. Here, he stands in front of the disappearing Margherita Glacier on Mount Stanely. Photographed in Uganda on assignment to film Snows of the Nile.

The Rwenzori Mountains divide Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Here, at the summit of Moebius Peak on Mt. Stanley, Neil looks west over the Congo. Photographed in Rwenzori National Park, Uganda on assignment to film Snows of the Nile.

The Lower Bigo Bog

Our expedition team crosses the lower Bigo Bog, avoiding the muddy morass (and preventing damage to the fragile bog ecosystem) by using a newly constructed boardwalk. In the foreground stands a Giant lobelia (Lobelia bequaertii). The flowers of these plants can reach more than four meters tall. It can take decades for the plant to flower. After the plant flowers, it dies. Photographed in Rwenzori National Park, Uganda while filming Snows of the Nile.

I lived in Southern Italy for more than two years. During that time, I bought a small rubber dingy (in the photo) and spent much of my time exploring the amazing Gargano Coast. Here, I set up a photo of myself in my boat, inside a large limestone cave. Photographed in the Gargano National Park, Italy.

With camera gear ready, Neil travels through the palm-rich cloud forests of El Yunque National Park, Puerto Rico. We spent about a week in Puerto Rica conducting research on anoles and filming bat-eating snakes.

Neil is bathed in an eerie green glow in the bamboo zone, a habitat dominated by dense stands of bamboo at the transition between the montane rainforest (lower) and heather forest (higher) in Rwenzori Mountains National Park. Photographed while filming Snows of the Nile.
